Cleveland, OH, July 17, 2000 - The Diner Inc., a Midwest based animation, design and web development studio, has announced that it will be expanding its creative services to include character development and creation based around SensAble Technologies' FreeForm™ modeling system. The new Character Development Team will provide an added service to The Diner's entertainment-focused clients.
The Diner's Character Development Team uses the process of taking a character concept, something as simple as "the villain," for example, and moving the concept through all of the steps of the creative development process to full character creation. The Diner's Character Development Team can provide everything from initial drawings to the final three-dimensional digital data. Character development can be used by the film and television industry as well as computer game developers to create new characters for their storylines. The toy industry can also utilize character development to give realistic form and movement to toy concepts.
The Diner has incorporated several new tools into their repertoire in order to bring about the formation of the Character Development Team. Among the most valuable of these tools is the FreeForm system from SensAble Technologies. Tom Ellery, Executive Vice President, Sales and Marketing for SensAble was quoted as saying, " The Diner provides a unique blend of talent and technology. The FreeForm system is a relatively new technology that was officially released at last year's Siggraph Conference in Los Angeles. It is the first application that allows the user to model inside cyberspace using the sense of touch. Zack Petroc, lead sculptor for The Diner's Character Development Team had this to say about the benefits of using FreeForm for character creation: "FreeForm allows you to intuitively sculpt with all the benefits of a digital medium but without the obstacles of a process oriented interface. The FreeForm system reduces the amount of time it takes to create a digital character because the interface does not interfere with the process."
