Los Angeles, August 5, 1999 - Kleiser-Walczak Construction Co and SensAble Technologies announced today that nine year old artist Io Walczak Kleiser will demonstrate SensAble's new FreeForm™ modeling system at SIGGRAPH '99 in Los Angeles on August 10th - 12th. The FreeForm system is the first application that lets users model on the computer using their sense of touch.

"SensAble Technologies is thrilled to exhibit the work of Io Walczak Kleiser, the youngest artist presenting at SIGGRAPH '99," said Andrew Hally, Director of Product Marketing. "Our primary development goal was to provide modelers with a new, more direct connection to their models via 3D Touch technology. The FreeForm system taps directly into an artist's innate creativity, unfiltered by complex controls, settings, or geometry. Io's ability to quickly master FreeForm modeling and create such excellent computer models proves we have hit the mark."

Io Walczak Kleiser used the FreeForm system to sculpt a 3D computer model of a gorilla. When asked to describe the process of creating her creature, Io said, "I was starting to sculpt a monkey and it became a gorilla. What's special about this project is that not many kids my age have done it before." The name of Io¹s computer generated gorilla will be announced at SIGGRAPH when she presents her finished model and shows the process by which she created it. These presentations will be held at Noon and 4 pm daily at SIGGRAPH Booth 1101. Additional work by Io Walczak Kleiser may be seen on her website at http://members.tripod.com/io_kleiser/iofolio/index.html.

About FreeForm modeling
FreeForm tools use familiar, physical metaphors, such as sculpting and wire cutting, that work in a direct and obvious manner. Controlling these tools through touch gives users an unprecedented connection to their model. "Intent" flows directly into the digital form, and any type of nuance or gesture can be faithfully captured. In addition to delivering the flexibility and expressiveness of clay, direct model interaction and familiar tools help eliminate the months-long learning curve typically needed to master 3D modeling software. As a result, the well-known productivity benefits of digital modeling can now be applied to a variety of modeling challenges previously beyond the capabilities of computer software.
